Who is Chris Furber?

"One of the most winningest sports coaches on the planet"

Chris Furber has more than 25 years experience working in high performance sport across some of the most successful governing bodies in Olympic and Paralympic Sport. 

 

Following graduating from Nottingham Trent University in 1999, Chris worked for British Cycling in Manchester during a time of unprecedented success for the sport. First as an Olympic Talent coach working with athletes such as Sir Jason Kenny KBE and Steven Burke MBE and then as Head Coach for the Paracycling team that returned 43 medals from the Beijing and London Games. Personal coach to Dame Sarah Storey DBE and Jody Cundy CBE

 

In 2013 Chris moved to the role of Performance Director for British Para-Swimming and was involved in two further Games in Rio and Tokyo, leading the team to 72 medals, more than any other sport funded by the National lottery. 

 

Most recently Chris was the Performance Director leading the Olympic and Paralympic flatwater canoe sprint and kayak programmes at PaddleUK based at the National Watersport Centre in Nottingham. The recent Paris 2024 Games the team returned their greatest ever performance, topping the medals table with eight medals. 

 

As skilled performance leader, coach and strategist, Chris has worked with some of the best coaches, athletes and practitioners to deliver over 580 medals at senior level in his 26 year career. Chris has also worked for the Premier League since 2014 supporting developing coaches and leaders and also speaks to industries in the commercial sector on performance and leadership.
